On To Austin

After a good night's sleep we were ready to continue our trip. We had a quick breakfast at the hotel and then headed out to do some letterboxing before heading to Austin. We drove to Lake Madisonville and found three stamps. One by Silver Eagle, one by Lone Star Quilter and one by Boots Tex. During our search for one of the boxes Bell Motel found a dead copperhead snake. He was just a little thing. I am not a fan of snakes but it was sad to see this little guy dead. After we were finished at the park we left Madisonville and headed west and took a detour to Old Bethel Cemetery to find Sarah's Flag. The story about Sarah was very interesting and the cemetery was wonderful - very peaceful. It was an older cemetery with some confederate graves and it is a little far off the beaten path. But it was worth the drive to find the box and enjoy the cemetery.

Our next stop was College Station. Here we found five more letterboxes. Three by Koko Kitty, one by Baby Bear and one by Corazon. We found two boxes in Veterans Park, one near the Army Memorial - the monument was very nice. After that we stopped at Wolf Pen Creek and walked a little trail near the amphitheatre and a pond. The park was very well kept and nice to visit. At this time we were all hungry so we stopped and had some lunch at a nice little mexican restaurant - Cazadores Mexican Restaurant. The food was really good and just what we needed. The place was a little eclectic. There was a chandelier hanging in the entrance and tiki bars in the corners. I kinda liked it. After lunch we drove to Henzel Park to find one box. We found the box but the stamp was broken in half which made for interesting stamping in. Then we drove to the George Bush Presidential Library to find a new box that was placed just a few days earlier. It wasn't actually at the library but a few blocks away. It was a great stamp by Corazon. Our last attempt was another stamp that involved the Presidential Library. We went to a little park just off one of the highways. Unfortunately we were unable to find the box. But a good thing was that there were a bunch of bluebonnets growing across the street from this park and they were beautiful. There were a few other boxes in the area but I think we were a little tired and ready for a break from all the activity so we chose to continue on to Austin and call it a day. We had a pretty uneventful drive and arrived in Austin around six. We unloaded the car and visited while Tom cooked us a great dinner - we had fish (salmon and mahi-mahi), grilled asparagus and turnips and brown rice - it was delicious.

After dinner I took a shower and started logging finds and continued with writing this blog but my eyes kept closing on me. So I am finishing it now and I am finally caught up.

A little side note: Tom (Whiz Gee) kept making fun of us as we talked about the event and all the letterboxes we found. He started calling us letterboxing nerds (which we really can't deny) but he is also a letterboxing nerd (although I don't think he would admit it). And Bell Motel found a picture that she showed us of East Texas Hunting Dogs that we all found to be a riot. Then Astro D comes up with an idea to combine the two - and the result is below.
