Denver Diversions

We left Golden after a nice breakfast and some much needed coffee at about 8:00am. Arriving in Denver, we were headed to find preboxed's Unsinkable. But we were diverted as we passed Elitch Gardens and I remembered that there was a letterbox near here. (Diversion #1) Unfortunately, I think the box is missing. The placer's clues were really good and I am 98% sure we were in the right spot. From here we decided to look for Denver Skate Park and Doors Open Denver - found both of these in close proximity to each other. (Diversion #2)

Now we were headed to Unsinkable - well actually NO! We got sidetracked by a very large REI store, now who could pass that up. (Diversion #3) After about an hour of shopping and a credit charge later we were finally headed for Unsinkable. And yes this time we made it without any other diversions. So far we were having a blast finding boxes in Denver.

DAM! No I am not swearing - this is where we headed next. The Denver Art Museum. They have added a new (and dare I say very modern) addition to the old "castle" looking building. It really is a nice piece of architecture, just not my taste. We were thwarted in our attempt as we passed a building that led me to believe we could find Denver Mmm something or other letterbox. (Diversion #4) We parked and began our search - and we were successful - the diversion was worth it. On to DAM! - no - our stomachs made a decision for us and we headed for lunch. (Diversion #5) We found a great little place called Dozens. We had a great meal and we were now ready for more boxing.

On the way to the museum we say a building and I quickly looked for a clue that I thought might match, so we stopped to check it out. (Diversion #6) Unfortunately it was not to be - not because it was missing and not because we couldn't find it but because of circimstances beyond out control. I know I am being vague here but it is a mystery box and I don't want to give anything away. So onward to the museum! We finally arrive at the designated area and find the DAM! letterbox without problems. Yippee! I love it when that happens.

Throughout the day we had also been reading clues for cha-ching, cha-ching and GME II. We never could make sense of them but that didn't stop us from checking different locations to see if they matched the clues. (Diversion #7) I am not sure if I just wasn't thinking straight or if not being from Denver put us at a disadvantage or that the clues were just to hard for me. I don't think we were ever very close to solving them. They will have to wait for another visit to Denver.

Our final box of the day was Curtain Call to be found at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. But you guessed it - we were diverted again by the 16th Street Mall. (Diversion #8) After walking this area for a while (and having a Starbucks Iced Mocha) we were drawn to some music off of Larimer Square. (Diversion #9) They were having a street party - It was "The Mad as a Hatter Tea Dance" . We ended up listening to music and people watching for about an hour. Fun! Fun! Fun!

Arriving at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Thomas noticed that Wicked was playing here. We saw Wicked in New York City and it has become one of our favorite Broadway plays. So we had to find out if tickets were available. (Diversion #10) Unfortunately it was sold out - we would have to settle for just the letterbox. This box was an easy find and I quickly logged in and rehid the box. The Denver Center for the Performing Arts is a beautiful place and you should try and visit if you are in Denver.

Tomorrow we head for home. I am going to try for one or two other boxes before we leave. I'll let you know what happens!

Your Day of Diversions sounds like too much fun. Too bad you couldn't get in to see Wicked. My friend Lynda just gave me her copy of Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, by the same guy, hope it's as good as Wicked was!
