Zigzagging My Way Into Texas

When I left Santa Fe this morning it was still dark and the temperature was 41° - but I knew that wouldn't last. By the time I got to Abilene the temperatures were around 79° - I am liking this. My drive started out uneventful as I made my way through Clines Corners, Santa Rosa, Fort Sumner and Clovis. Then I entered Texas and when I got to Muleshoe I left my usual route on US84 and headed south on TX214. I then turned east on FR298 to Circle Back and made my way to the Circle Back Baptist Church. The place was empty and I quickly found WagTime's Circle Tour 2009 - Panhandle, TX. I took the box back to the car to stamp in. This box doesn't have many finders - I guess when you are in an out of the way place not too many people take the time to go there. Anyway, I replaced the box and headed out. I backtracked to TX214 and continued south to TX114. Heading east I stopped between Leveland and Smyer at an historic marker where I found CresoteRain's Spade Ranch South Camp. The box is hidden in a hollow stone post and you have to reach in to get the box - kind of creepy. I found a stick and poked around before I stuck my hand in. Nothing to worry about - no creepy crawlers. I again stamped in while sitting in the car. After replacing the box I continued on TX114 to Smyer and then took FR168 south to US82 and then to Brownfield on US380. In Brownfield I made my way to the cemetery where I found Walksfar's Quilt Piece. I was the first finder on this box since it was just placed a couple of weeks ago. I stamped in, replaced the box and then returned to US380 to continue on to Tahoka. Here I went to the cemetery and found another Walksfar box - Tahoka Bulldog. Another first find! I stamped in and then replaced the box and headed for my last stop before heading for my hotel in Abilene for the night. From Tahoka I went south on US87 through O'Donnell to Lamesa. Then I took US180 to Gail. I made my way to the cemetery to look for jb kokopelli's Gail Borden. I was unable to find this box. I am not sure what the juniper where the box was hidden looked like when she hid this box but now it is trimmed and looks like a tree and not a bush. I still searched but came up empty handed. Now it was time to call it a day and I still had a little bit of a drive to Abilene. I arrived at my hotel around 6:00pm and checked in. I am glad to be off the road and to get some rest. Tomorrow I continue my drive and will get to Somerville in the afternoon and will be using that as my base as I letterbox around the area.
