Letterboxing My Way to Somerville

So today I am finishing my drive to Somerville where I will be for a week and for the Artistic License Event. I left Abilene about 7:30am and headed east on I20 to Baird. In Baird I made my way to Ross Cemetery to find two boxes - Baby Bear's Jealous Ghost and Silver Eagle's Antiques Capital of West TX. The cemetery was very peaceful and quiet in this early morning visit and I enjoyed the solitude. I had no problem finding both of these boxes and getting them back into their hiding spots. I always enjoy finding these guy's boxes. After leaving the cemetery I headed south on US283 to TX36 where I headed east to Cross Plains. Not far down TX36 I turned onto FR2287 for about five miles to its junction with CR410. Here I found another Baby Bear stamp - Camp Pecan. I felt so in the middle of nowhere. I didn't see any cars during my drive and it was very quiet. After stamping in and replacing the box I backtracked to TX36. Just before entering Cross Plains I stopped at a little road side park to find Baby Bear's Fort Mason to Camp Cooper Military Road. I followed the clues but came up empty handed. Not really sure if I missed it or not because the spot where the box should have been had a hole that went down further than I could see in and it was too small to stick my hand in. I did use a stick to poke around but didn't really feel anything. So I left the park and continued on my tour of TX36 (this road took me all the way to Somerville, with a few small detours).

My next stop was in Comanche. First I went to the city park and followed the clues where I found Boots Tex's amazing carve - Comanche. This is a beautiful stamp and I enjoyed the park as I sat and stamped in. I then replaced the box and made my way to Oakwood Cemetery to find zturtle's Visiting Mrs. Bryne. This was a quick and easy find and in no time I was back on the road to my next stop, which was in Hamilton. At the cemetery I found Silver Eagle's Jumble Game 23 and Boots Tex's Brushy Bill aka Billy the Kid. I had a little trouble with Silver Eagle's box as it was really well hidden but I did find it and after stamping in I returned it to its hiding spot and started to look for Boots' box. I didn't have to follow the clues because as I was looking for the starting point I saw the box out in the open. When I picked it up I noticed that the top wasn't latched because all the tabs had broken off. I sat and stamped in and decided to double bag everything since the lid was on tight. I then moved some dirt from the hiding spot and made the hole a little deeper and then covered the box with leaves, sticks and rocks. I hope this box remains safe. Now that I was finished here I continued on to Gatesville. I first found zturtle's Faunty box at Faunt Le Roy Park and then found Baby Bear's Fort Gates box at the city cemetery. At this point I stopped to fill the car with gas and get a snack before continuing on. I also made some decisions about what to do next. I had clues for boxes in Moody and Temple but opted to forgo these today and maybe try for them when I make my drive home. So my next and last letterbox stop of the day was in Milano.

I drove to Liberty Community Church Cemetery on FM3242. Here I found Dream Interpretations: Human Aspirations by topcrop, Cemetery Cross: Tribal by Beach Bum TX and Who Will Go With Old Ben Milam? by Boots Tex. It was a great way to end the day. The area was nice and I always enjoy the solitude of a cemetery. After replacing all the boxes I continued on to Somerville. I didn't make any stops until I arrived in Somerville where I grabbed a sandwich to take to the hotel for dinner. Now that I am settled I realize that I am exhausted. I have decided not to set an alarm and I will just get up when my body decides it is okay. I haven't really decided what I am doing tomorrow but it will be letterboxing somewhere in the area.
