Driving and Letterboxing to Tucson

This morning after getting dressed and getting my things back into the car I decided to backtrack a few miles to get a box that I missed yesterday as I got into Safford. So I drove about five miles east on Hwy 70 to get CW Sun Seeker's Old West Highway box. The box is hidden at a pullout with an historical marker. This was  a quick and easy find and since it was still early there was no one around. After stamping in and replacing the box I returned to Safford and then continued my drive west. I didn't get very far for my next stop - the Thatcher cemetery. Here I quickly found Glowing Headstones by JamFam8. This was an easy find and it wasn't long before I was headed to my next stop. Not far along Hwy 70 I exited in Pima and made my way to the cemetery. I found another JamFam8 box here - Pima, Arizona Letterbox. Another quick stamp in and I was again on my way. From the cemetery I drove out of town a ways to the Cluff Ranch Wildlife Area to find Azroadie's Kingfisher box. It was about an 8 mile drive on a well maintained dirt road. During the drive I didn't see any cars and wondered how isolated the place was. But when I arrived at the parking area there were quite a few people fishing at the pond. When I got out of the car I was greeted by a small, little, white dog. He was so cute and I wondered who he belonged to. I got a little worried because the dog followed me to the box and sat with me while I stamped in. The box wasn't all that far from the parking area and I wasn't gone too long so that if the owner was looking for the dog he wouldn't have to worry too long. When I returned to my car there was a gentleman looking for the dog. He apologized if the dog bothered me and thanked me for getting it back to the parking area. The dog and the man were very nice and I actually enjoyed having the dog as company. Now that I was done here I headed back into Pima and then continued on my drive west to Globe.

As I entered Globe I turned and made my way to Round Mountain Park to find Squatchis' Arizona Counties: Gila County. I followed the clues and had a great little walk with incredible views. I easily found the box and took my time stamping in since the area was beautiful. Finally I returned to the car and then made my way to AZ 188 which took me to AZ 288. As I was driving along 288 I saw something in the road quite a ways up ahead and as I got closer I was able to tell it was some small javelinas. There must have been 10 of them. But before I could get close enough and stop to take a picture they were gone. I continued my drive to Cherry Creek Road and made my way to a parking area about a mile up. Here I found Azroadie's Cherry Creek box. I quickly stamped in and then made my way back to US 60. I drove from Globe on US 60 through Miami and Superior and the headed south on AZ 79 to Florence. When I arrived in Florence I made my way to the McFarland State Historic Park. I took a self guided walk through the historic building and then found Squatchis' Arizona Counties: Pinal County box hidden in the building. I took the box outside to a bench to stamp in and then returned it to its hiding spot. Back on the road I continued my drive on AZ 79 and eventually entered the Pinal Pioneer Parkway. This drive is so incredible and I enjoyed every mile of it. Along the way I stopped and found a few boxes - Escaped from the Chain Gang, Kodiak Bear #46 and Angiosperm:Dicot:Carnegiea gigantea. The drive is scenic and beautiful. I did stop at the Tom Mix Memorial for one of the boxes and read the story of Tom Mix and took a break and enjoyed the area. I then turned off onto AZ 77 to make my way into Tucson.

Once in Tucson I decided I still had time to find a couple of letterboxes before making my way to the hotel. So I went to two different spots and found two great boxes by AZBlueLion - they are part of his Tucson Street Smarts series. I found Stop Mispronouncing My Name and The Associate Justice. I really love the clues for these boxes. They are puzzles and I only figured out the two I found but I am working on others. I am glad I was able to find these boxes and hope to get more next time I visit Tucson.

After getting these boxes I made my way to the hotel and checked in. I then got something to eat at the hotel restaurant - Finnegan's. After eating I took a shower and then relaxed. It has been a long day and now I need some rest so that I can do more tomorrow.
