Home Stretch [Day Five]

I’m not sure whether Thomas and I are ready to get home or if we just had trouble sleeping but we were both awake at 5:30am. We showered, dressed and loaded the car. After a quick continental breakfast at the hotel we decided to head out to Mesa Verde since we were so close. Great place, incredible to see the cliff dwellings just carved into the side to the rock. It was a little disappointing though, there was a lot of burned area. It made the place look stark. All in all – worth the trip.

From there we headed west to the Four Corners Monument. Neat place – we stood in four different states at the same time. We found Kristal and Ron’s Four Corners box but we were unable to locate Amanda from Seattle’s Four Corners box. I just love all the rock formations in this area, such a great drive. I especially like Shiprock – the way it just sits there all by itself – it really does look something like a ship out at sea.

We then drove to Gallup to look for Kantexan’s Lost Texan Series #10 – New Mexico.
This one is located a little west of Gallup at Mentmore Rock Climbing Area. We were in and out in about 15 minutes – a quick and easy find. Afterwards we headed into Gallup for a quick and early lunch. We left Gallup and drove I-40 to I-25 and then up to Santa Fe. We are home! Had a great trip and found some incredible boxes. Also, we were taken to places we had never been and a couple of old favorites. But in the end it is always nice to be back home.
