Ouray to Telluride to Cortez [Day Four – Part 2]

We enjoyed the drive to Telluride from Ouray. I don’t even remember the number of times we stopped to take pictures. Fall colors, mountains, snow, scenic farms – absolutely gorgeous. After about an hour and a half we arrived in Telluride. This was our first visit to Telluride. What a great town. The first thing we did was drive right through town and headed for Bridal Veil Falls. We opted to drive up since Thomas hurt his knee a few months ago and yesterday after hiking Engineer Mountain it started giving him trouble again. We loved the falls and after taking a few pictures we took out the clues for Fall and Falls in Telluride. Found the box easy enough and what a great stamp and logbook – thanks Kat. After getting the box back into place we went back into Telluride and looked for another box – it eluded us – maybe we figured it wrong. I’m writing to the placer to see where we went wrong.

Time to eat again – funny how that gets in the way of letterboxing pretty frequently. Found a great little pizza place and had a relaxing lunch. We then spent a short time walking around town before heading out. We wanted to be in Cortez by night.

We enjoyed a quiet drive down Hwy 145 and after arriving in Cortez we headed out to Sleeping Ute Rest Area to find Mesa Verde letterbox. Nice walk around the rest area and nice stamp. I was the First Finder and there was a hitchhiker in there as well – The Bugle Boy Hitchhiker. I will find a good home for the guy. We are very tired after the long drive today but I was determined to get this blog done. Tomorrow we may try for a couple more boxes and then we are headed home. I’ll be back tomorrow with the final part of the trip.
