Interstate and Cemeteries

I left West Greenwich today around 8:00am. I thought that if I left a little later I would avoid some traffic on I95 going through Providence - well, I was wrong. It took me quite a bit of time to make it through the city. Last night I decided not to letterbox until I was back in Massachusetts. I planned to stop in Attleboro and Foxborough and then make it to Norwood by late afternoon so I could get things ready for my flight home tomorrow.

Once I got through Providence it was pretty clear driving. I took one of the first exits and made my way to Newell Burying Ground (which is the oldest cemetery in Attleboro). I went to find a letterbox that honored a young man who collapsed and died while playing soccer. The cemetery is beautiful and I found Andrew's grave - it was covered with lots of trinkets that friends and family left there. From here I found the box. Unfortunately it is in bad shape and needs repair. The box was completely wet and the logbook was useless. I stamped the stamp in to my logbook but was unable to stamp into the box's logbook. I replaced the box and made a note to contact the placer later on. Next I headed to St. Stephen's Cemetery to find A Lost Gnome. This cemetery is much newer and I didn't like it as much as the first one. So I found the box quickly, stamped in and continued on my way. The next cemetery I stopped at was Woodlawn Cemetery. I loved this cemetery. It had some very nice gravestones and was just peaceful and beautiful. Unfortunately, the box I found here had a store bought stamp. I was really disappointed because this was such a wonderful place I felt it deserved a much better box. Anyway! Time to continue on. My fourth stop was at North Purchase Cemetery. It was also nice but what I liked about it was that way in the back was an opening into the woods. You could see a stone wall in the distance. When you walked up to and around it you found a bench to sit on with a block of stone in the wall with a quote from Romeo and Juliet about stony limits.
For stony limits cannot hold love out,
And what love can do that dares love attempt.

Romeo and Juliet, 2. 2
This was such a wonderful spot. I sat for a while and enjoyed the quiet and relaxed. The stamp was a carving of the wall - really nice. After this I made my way to St. John's Cemetery. I was looking for Angels. I only found one of the boxes - the one with the angels. The other box was a teardrop but I couldn't find it anywhere. I had a small piece of carving material and a film canister with a rolled up logbook. So I quickly carved a small teardrop and replaced the box. I need to write to the placer and let her know. Well I was done in Attleboro so I continued north on I95.

I made a stop in Foxborough and more specifically at Rockhill Cemetery.
There were suppose to be three boxes here. I only found one and it was of a store bought stamp - uugghh! All three boxes had similar clues - you had to find different headstones that eventually lead to the box. I found the first on pretty easy. But after that I had trouble. After quite a bit of searching I found the landmarks for the second box but It was missing or I am really bad at looking for boxes because I found the last gravestone faced in the right direction and took my steps - no box. So then I searched the area all around and still never find it - so I gave up and moved on to the next box. This last box was pretty tedious - I was suppose to look for different gravestones with either pictures or bible quotes and get letters from them that would eventually spell out a name and then I would look for that gravestone and then the box. I had so much trouble finding the gravestones and I was so turned around in the cemetery that I eventually gave up. I had a nice time exploring all these cemeteries but I decided to head up to Norwood for the night. I decided to stop and get something to eat and then I checked into the hotel. I got my luggage all organized for the flight tomorrow and I am just catching up on blogs and logging in. Hopefully I can get to bed early - I have a long day tomorrow.
